User Account Control (UAC) was one of the most controversial features of Windows Vista, and while it’s still present in Windows 7, it has been tweaked to be more user-friendly. UAC can provide a useful layer of protection against spyware and other rogue programs that will try and change aspects of your system configuration, but if you’re an experienced user who’s confident with your security setup, then you can change the level at which UAC operates. On the left of the Action Centre screen (accessible via Control Panel or the icon in the notification area) you’ll find a link to change UAC settings – follow this to find a slider that enables you to adjust the number of notifications that you’ll receive from the operating system.
