PC Utilities review:

FireTune is a standalone application rather than a Firefox extension, and provides the means to tweak and optimise many different Firefox settings. Most applications of this sort display a lengthy list of complicated-sounding options and expect you to know or guess what each one is referring to. FireTune, though, is quite the opposite and conceals almost every detail of its optimisation method from the user. It's therefore ideally suited to those who are usually intimidated by tweaking software, though it won't please anyone keen on getting their hands dirty by messing around with complex settings.

Because FireTune's methodology for optimising Firefox is hidden away, its main display simply consists of a few basic scenarios about your setup. All you need to do is choose the option from the list that most closely matches your system - Slow Computer/Fast Connection, Fast Computer/Slower Connection, and so on - and you're ready to go. While there are no options for altering the changes FireTune makes to your browser, if you're desperate to do a bit of tinkering you'll be relieved to know you can turn on a further three minor tweaks. Then it's just a matter of pressing a button to back up your current configuration before going ahead and tuning Firefox by pressing the large Tune It! button. As soon as the button is pressed, Firefox will immediately be optimised for better performance.

According to the program maker's website, the software works by optimising several internal settings of Firefox, which almost always improve the overall performance of the browser. It doesn't alter the original executable file in any way, and you can always revert back to the previous configuration if anything goes wrong or if you preferred Firefox as it was before.
