PC Utilities review:
Creating your icons can help add a touch of professionalism to your home made CD projects or make it easier to identify favourite files or folders on your PC. Creating icons isn't too difficult - simply resize a digital image to the correct dimensions, save it as a .bmp file then change the extension to .ico - but Bitmap to Icon Wizard gives you a greater range of options through a step-by-step interface.
Select a bitmap image to convert (this must be no smaller than 256x256 pixels) then choose which colour depths you wish to include - if in doubt, use the defaults. You can then select the size of icon you require and preview the icon before outputting the final file.
The program works well enough but transparency effects seldom work as they should, making for scrappy-looking icons.

User reviews:
david pizzanelli says: This is a simple but effective way of converting a BMP impage to an ICO image with full control of size and quality of output file. The software is a bit fussy about the type of Bitmap that is used (saved from Photoshop as a Windows BMP did not work, but saved from PhotoFiltre as a BMP worked fine) Quick and easy to use.
