PC Utilities review:

There's no excuse for not installing an antivirus program, as there are a handful of decent quality freeware applications, including AVG AntiVirus (http://free.grisoft.com) and avast! (www.avast.com). Comodo AntiVirus is a new name to add to this list and, like the company's Personal Firewall applications we looked at last month, it makes an excellent first impression. The application's interface is clean and clear, providing users with a straightforward overview of the current security settings, such as the status of the program's features and the date of the last full scan.

Everything that's required to keep your system safe from viruses is on offer here. The real-time on access scanner and email scanner prevent infections from finding a foothold in your system, and heristic scanning techniques ensure that any new viruses yet to be classified by definition files should be identified and blocked. Virus definition files are updated daily, and this process is handled automatically. It's also possible to schedule when you want scans to run, and network scanning is supported - two features that are often limited in free antivirus tools.

Although it's still in beta at the moment, we found Comodo AntiVirus to be a smooth running and effective tool. If you have vitally important data on your PC it may be wise to stick with a scanner with a proven track record for the time being, but so long as it stands the test of time, the range of features on offer here make Comodo AntiVirus an excellent choice for home users and small businesses alike.

Fred5245 says: Great program. I have it on my laptop and not 1 single virus has made it to my computer. The settings are good alongside the awesome protection. If you need an anti-virus program. This is the one to go for. (03/06/2010)
