| PC Utilities review: Most of the tools in our round-up have a long and established history, but there are some excellent new tools on the rise, including Songbird - a media player and Web browser, built on Firefox source code. Currently in the early beta stages, Songbird is designed to help bring Web-based media to your desktop PC, whilst functioning as a media player like iTunes.
What marks Songbird apart from other media players is its ability to search the Web for audio files and integrate Web-based media into your playlists. In this way you can seamlessly flow from .mp3 files stored on your hard drive to streaming audio files, SHOUTcast radio stations and more.
As the program is still in its beta stages, there are still many bugs to iron out and some functions don't work quite as they should. Nonetheless, this is one of the first tools to full embrace Web-based media and we'll be following its development with interest.
