PC Utilities review:
Thanks to PC-based search programs like Google Desktop (also on this month's coverdisc, under the Windows tab), locating file stored on your hard drive can be a quick a painless process. Even if you have a large and spacious hard drive, you won't won't to store all your files on your PC all the time - you may well store less commonly used files on CD, for example, or backups of old data. Desktop search tools are less useful in locating data from removable media, which is where Katalooga may come in handy.
Using Katalooga's Add Disk function, you can index the contents of any drive connected to your PC - be it a hard drive you use ever day, or a CD currently residing in your optical drive. By adding a suitable label to each disc indexed, you can use Katalooga to build up a complete library of all the data discs in your collection, including program CDs or magazine coverdiscs like the PC Utilities CDs. Each disc can be assigned to a user-defined category, and you can browse through the file and folders of any disc indexed without needing the disc itself in your optical drive.
Whenever you need a specific file or folder, you can perform a search in order to identify exactly which disc or hard drive contains the data you need.
