PC Utilities review:
If you're tweaking your operating system to get things runner faster, then you may be better off using the limited options available in SpeedXP rather than tackling a more complex application. The program's concise feature set is split into two categories - System and Networking. The first of these is concerned with tweaks that boost the overall speed of Windows, whilst the second focuses on improving your Internet speeds. In the System section, the hacks on offer include the option to disable the Windows Paging Executive, which can speed up systems with plenty of RAM (1GB+) by forcing Windows to use it in favour of the slower paging file, stored on your hard drive. You can also tweak the I/O Page Lock Limit to better suit the RAM you have available, enabling Windows to write data to disk more efficiently.
To enhance the speed and reliability of your Internet connection, the Network section offers a selection of settings you can tweak. If you don't feel comfortable adjusting these manually, select your Internet connection type from the Recommended drop-down list to access suitable settings.
