PC Utilities review:

The registry is a vital component of the operating system and acts as a database for user preferences, hardware and software configurations, and a lot more besides. Storing all major configuration data in one central place helps keep Windows running quickly and smoothly. However, because so many programs and applications access and edit the data in the registry, these benefits can easily be forgotten when faults and slowdown rear their ugly heads.

Attempting to repair and optimise the registry manually isn't for the faint-hearted, and it's not strictly necessary when there are useful tools like Registry Mechanic to hand. The program can be used to safely clean and repair invalid entries in the registry and help reduce the occurrence of error messages, ultimately improving system performance.

Registry Mechanic is both effective and straightforward, and its Restore function means any changes you make to the registry can be undone if they prove counterproductive. Even with a tool like this at your disposal, it's still worth getting to know the registry first hand by following our Registry Workshop each month.
