Colour correction

Q: I wonder if anyone on the team can help? I’m scanning a collection of colour slides into the PC using an HP Scanjet 4850. The slides date back to the 1960s/1970s and many are either faded or are showing a pronounced colour shift. My scanner has a restore colour function which works quite well but does not allow batch processing with this function switched on. Do you know of any software which would deal with these slides and would let me process several at once?

A: There are several possibilities here. You could try Color Correction Wizard which allows you to use a template image as a reference to recolour others so that they retain similar characteristics. Alternatively Photo Toolkit, from the same source, is a more general purpose photo correction tool that also has a batch mode. Also worth a look is Helicon Filter although the free version has limited functionality. Finally you might consider SoftColor Photo2, this is shareware but the latest beta version is currently available free.
