Q: I was just reading issue 117 of PC Utilities where someone wanted to run old DOS games under Windows (link). There are some really good DOS games that enthusiasts still like to play, that simply won’t run under Windows, or won’t work properly. Often is it suggested to run a virtual machine and then install a DOS version into it. I have tried this, and found that it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
The simple solution is to run a program called DOSBox, which runs nearly all the old DOS games, and it’s still in development and improving all the time. It’s currently at version 0.73.
A: Thanks for the suggestion, it’s always nice to hear of alternative solutions to the ones we suggest. DOSBox is an interesting open source project and versions are available for Mac and Linux systems as well as Windows.
