IE Title Bar

Q: I have a small problem in that I can’t seem to solve in Internet Explorer. It evolves from my original ISP Supanet. I’ve changed to BT but every time IE loads, the description on the top bar says Supanet Internet Explorer. A small problem I know but it annoys me. I just cannot seem to get rid of the Supanet header. I downloaded IE8 hoping it would override the Supanet but to no avail. The path looks OK but there must be a file somewhere adding this script to the IE header. Please make me sane and tell me how to get rid of Supanet once and for all?

A: What you’re referring to is the Internet Explorer Title Bar, it’s quite common for ISPs to customise this by adding their own text, but because it’s held in the registry the extra text doesn’t go away even when you install a newer version of the browser.

You can change it with a registry edit, go to Start, Run and type regedit. When the program opens navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Find the value Window Title in the right-hand pane, right-click and select Modify, you can then change the Value Data to the title you want.

If you’re not confident in your ability to edit the registry you can download IE Title Bar Changer which allows you to make the change from a simple dialogue box.
